Without the second season, we will never get the chance to see how the relationship will develop between Ikki and Stella or learn if Ikki will get to prove himself as the greatest knight.

The only way to learn that without a continuation would be to read the light novels, but most people will never do that. Watching anime is just much more enjoyable, and it’s what most people prefer to do.

The problem is that Chivalry of a Failed Knight season 2 didn’t get officially announced yet, and we don’t know what the chances are that another season of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry will get green-lit.

The second thing we need to figure out how many books got used for the anime’s first season. Sometimes anime does catch up with the source material like in the case of OPM and why One Punch Man Season 3 will take a while to get announced.

How many volumes of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry are there?

There are currently 18 light novel volumes of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry released in Japan. The series got also adapted to a manga illustrated by Megumu Soramichi.

The manga got collected in eleven tankōbon volumes. There was also an anthology manga volume illustrated by various artists that got published in 2014.

Is Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry still ongoing?

The Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry light novels are still ongoing for now. The latest volume by the author Riku Misora got released in Japan on June 12, 2020.

It looks like the story will end in 1 to 3 volumes, so it wouldn’t surprise me if, in 2021, it will get concluded. There can always be some sequel or spin-off announced, so we will need to wait and see what will happen with the story.

Which light novels does the anime of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry cover?

The first season of the Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry anime that aired in 2015 adapted volumes 1-3. That means if you want to continue the story after the anime, then you should start reading from light novel volume 4.

Part 2: Sales & Profit Information For Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry Season 2

The primary purpose this anime got made was to make a profit for the production committee. That means looking at the sales for Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is critical to determine if there is a chance that this anime can get a season 2.

A one cour anime television series like Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry can cost up to 3,000,000 dollars to produce.

And a lack of a Profit is usually the reason why most anime won’t get a continuation. An excellent example of a sequel that will have a tough time getting green-lit because of money is Wise Man’s Grandchild Season 2.

What’s worse is that making a small profit isn’t enough because most sequels make less money than the first season. That means the payoff needs to be large enough that even with a 20% drop, it would be worth doing a sequel.

For example, Goblin Slayer didn’t lose money, but a Goblin Slayer Season 2 would most likely not make a profit anymore.

The Rakugai Kishi no Cavalry anime from Silver Link sold around 3,000 copies per disk on average. That’s not terrible, but it’s not great either for 2015. The series got a BD-Box later, and it sold around 700 copies.

I think that 3,000 copies sold in 2015 is a pretty low number for an anime that wants a sequel. A good number would be around 7-10k per volume since most anime that sold that much got one.

Well, unless you are Accel World, we never got Accel World season 2 even with high BD sales.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry Light Novel sales

Volume 17 of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry was released on November 14, 2019, and sold approximately 15,000 copies. The latest light novel volume 18 that got released in 2020 sold around 10,000 copies so far.

The sales are bad for a series that received an anime adaptation. A good sales are around 30,000 – 60,000 for a popular series with anime. There are even light novel series like Overlord that sell 230,000 copies per volume. Yet you find that some people still question if there will be Overlord Season 4 even if it’s one of the best selling light novels ever.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry Merchandise sales

There are only two figures available for Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, and both are Stella Vermillion. There are also approximately 15-25 pieces of merchandise made for this series, and that is super low.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is doing poorly in terms of merchandise. Even less popular series like Tokyo Ravens got more merch made for them, and Tokyo Ravens Season 2 didn’t get announced to this day.
